Indigenous Modernism
A dynamic new lifestyle approach where traditional indigenous wisdom and simple nature-inspired solutions meet hyper-efficient clean modern technology and minimalism. Moving towards a world where indigenous and modern cultures are no longer at odds with one another
Exploring real world solutions and projects tackling cost of living, climatic, environmental, health, land access and other societal problems. Resources for indigenous people navigating modern life, modernists searching for a new path and those somewhere in between
The life and world-changing power of combining six key themes
Hyper-efficient clean technology
For affordable, simple, low impact modern living
Permaculture & food forests
From small hacks to complete systems that let nature do more of the work for you
Minimalism

Having less, working less, living more
Recognising, rewarding and reviving traditional indigenous wisdom, regenerative ecosystem and social practices
Highly effective tried and tested methods are disappearing but we still have time to keep many alive.
Consciousness expansion, gratitude and ceremonial practices

The vital hidden ingredients - with these, so much more can happen
Ecosystem and community regeneration at speed and scale

Using super-efficient, high impact modern technologies to turn the destruction paradigm upside-down
Applying traditional indigenous thinking to modern living, saving work, energy and waste
'Indigenous people quickly gather sticks, light a small fire, sit close and speak quietly. Westerners cut trees, chop and haul logs, light a huge roaring fire, sit far away then have to shout at each other’ - Unknown ancient Indian proverb (elaborated)
Embracing smart joined-up thinking where single actions have multiple benefits
The permaculture of life. Stacking day to day activities. Think food and medicine growing systems that as a free by-product, provide diverse, dynamic exercise that isn’t harsh on the body, saving the time, money and natural resources used going to the gym. Think cycling to work and grabbing groceries on the way home, eliminating the economic, environmental costs and hassle of car ownership, reducing noise and air pollution whilst staying fit and connecting with the outside world.
Minimalism
‘The truly rich person owns little… but enjoys the abundance and beauty of all land and objects’ - Unknown

The things we own can end up owning us if we have too many. Minimalism saves money and resources, reduces mental and physical clutter, creates freedom and is just plain sexy

Drawing parallels between the very simple, practical and beautiful items that indigenous peoples possess, and the same traits of the modern minimalist movement. Quality over quantity

Merging ornamental, orchard, forestry and vegetable cultivation into something all-encompassing. Beautiful, practical, low maintenance, high yield food, products and services, all whilst supporting nature.

Three Billion Free
A framework to achieve the shift
A billion people suffer through lack, another billion, plus the planet suffer through excess, whilst at least another billion in between work excessively to maintain this seemingly endless scenario of destruction, inefficiency and insanity.
AI and OI
Artificial and Organic Intelligence
Whilst indigenous modernism embraces the power of artificial intelligence as a way to massively improve efficiency in the world for many administrative, logistical or monotonous tasks, it is recognised that AI technology that embodies indigenous wisdom or other well-respected wisdom traditions would be required in many cases, for example, in decisions involving ethics.

But in the current global buzz around AI, the growth in Organic Intelligence (OI) is hiding in the shadows. Organic intelligence has existed for millennia in wisdom traditions but is largely lacking in the modern world. But as more and more people find themselves with free time for wellness modalities, sports, personal or spiritual growth, the global level of organic intelligence or consciousness expansion is on the rise. Not only does this provide peace of mind that humanity will remain smart enough to keep AI in positive, constructive realms, it also helps us realise or remember that natural human intelligence is infinite in itself, and many would argue, more majestic, beautiful, creative, loving and powerful than AI could ever be.

Indigenous AI is a great resource for further reading, as is this essay from Charles Eisenstein
