About
The American Dream that so much of the western world still consciously or subconsciously strives for is increasingly wearing thin, and more and more of us are collectively seeing a new vision that is more economical, ecologically friendly, fulfilling, easy, healthy, fun and accessible to all.

Everything this vision requires already exists. This project aims to simply organise and visualise it all into an alluring integrated lifestyle model. There are many great projects, thinkers and professionals with the same or overlapping visions doing incredible work .

Indigenous modernism aims to shine a light on the best of these for inspiration and help us to connect with others around the world to expand the shift and build momentum, but it is only one way of looking at things for those who resonate with it's ideas and values, and is by no means a movement or solution that can solve the world's problems all by itself.

This website acts as a constantly expanding showcase of projects, specialists, organisations, businesses and individuals in alignment with the principles and visions of indigenous modernism. As the project expands, we will at some point offer a searchable global directory of projects and services in alignment with IM principles so that eventually, anywhere we visit, we can find and support businesses, services, individuals and communities that are part of the transition to the world we all want to live in.

Cyclical nature of the industrial and technological revolutions

Embracing ultra efficient, low impact modern technology, acknowledging that it took great environmental destruction and human suffering to navigate through the industrial revolution to bring us to this point.

Indigenous modernism aims to go full circle by giving back and using this technology to rightfully and dutifully regenerate ecosystems, social structures and individual human lives to a state as good as or better than that which existed before the industrial revolution, thanks to the cultural, social and conscious revolutions that have simultaneously occurred over this timeframe.

Many modern technological innovations have reached or are reaching a point of incredible efficiency, low impact production processes and ease of recyclability. Such innovations are favoured and promoted as part of a modern indigenous lifestyle.
Who are we?
Right now as this project is birthing, I am Dan, English born, with a background in sustainability, permaculture and wellness. My partner Brya is also helping - she is Canadian and grew up internationally with a background in nature schools and tantra. We're coming into this project with an attitude of indigenous discovery and openness to learning. Accepting there is enormous contrast between this way of life and modern consumerist society. For us the project is all about exploring the potential to which indigenous thinking and practices can be integrated into modern lifestyles to help bring about the vital improvements that are needed, whilst not wishing to water down or disrespect any indigenous practices or traditions. But the clock is ticking and we feel it's important not to waste too much time getting into details of definition. As the world's pace of change is hurtling faster than ever, we see us at a time of 'all hands on deck'. Lets not destroy the last of our indigenous cultures and ecosystems by letting consumerism carelessly infiltrate them, but embrace modernism highlighting and rewarding the positive parts.
